Great Pyramids and Great Syphinx, Giza Egypt

The Giza plateau is home to the Great Pyramids of Khufu, Kahfre and Menkaura. No pyramids are more celebrated than the Great Pyramids of Giza, located on a plateau on the west bank of the Nile River, on the outskirts of modern-day Cairo. The oldest and largest of the three pyramids at Giza, is the only surviving structure out of the famed seven wonders of the ancient world. Khafre’s pyramid retains some of its original limestone casing at the apex, and so it is possible to imagine how the pyramids might have appeared in antiquity. Khafre also built the Great Sphinx, which is 20 m high 73 m long.  It was carved from an outcropping of limestone left after quarrying the stone for his father’s pyramid. .
